Matteo Compagnoni
Junior
The Italian, one of the five cadets promoted to the U19 category by the Contador Foundation with a view to 2024, is a rider forged in the mountains. Or in its landscapes. A mountain and snow cyclist in breathtaking and breathtaking alpine environments. His home is in Valfurva, a small village of less than 3,000 inhabitants, located at the foot of Passo Gavia, near Bormio, an enclave of great importance for the teams given the enormous support shown to the project by the Kometa company, which has its roots in this town through Giacomo Pedranzini and his family. A stout boy, a good student (he is studying tourism-related studies) and a very quiet and calm character, skiing and bicycles are a family affair. As a child, he accompanied his father and uncles on some of their outings, and at the age of eight he had already had the opportunity to climb the mythical Passo Gavia. At thirteen, his parents bought him his first road bike. The truth is that Matteo has focused exclusively on cycling this past season, as until then he had been combining it with skiing. Matteo competed in the Alpine category with the Martinelli brothers’ Reit Ski Team. The E’Valtellina of the Pedale Morbegnese has allowed him to polish himself, competing on many occasions alone. Daniele Cantoni, rider of the U23 structure from 2016 to 2018 seasons and neighbour of Bormio, encouraged him at the time to continue taking steps in cycling and has been one of the people who has encouraged him to face this adventure in the Spanish peloton. In the last EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team training camp in Bormio, in the summer of 2023, he was present and showed his potential in the climbs to Lago di Cancano and Livigno.
