Oscar Orts closes the Trofeo Cabedo with a 5th place in Segorbe

XXXIV Trofeo Entrada de Toros y Caballos
Segorbe - Segorbe (94,6km)

The closing race of the Trofeo Cabedo leaves a bittersweet taste in the mouth of the junior team that leaves Segorbe with a 4th place in the overall standings and the award for the best team of the trophy.

With a very tight general classification after the first 3 days of competition, the team arrived with the idea of positioning Oscar Orts and Eleazar Jimenez in the best position to score as many points as possible. At the start a breakaway was formed with double representation of the team; Robinsón Rincón and Iker Díaz.

Halfway through the race and with an advantage that was always around 45″ and a minute, there was a fall in the breakaway that caused the group to break up, leaving one rider in front who would finally take the victory. Both Robinsón and Iker were chasing this rider while different groups formed behind to try to catch them. A group of 14 riders then formed behind the leading rider, where Hugo Pradas filtered in, in addition to the two riders mentioned above.

The breakaway was too big to score the points needed to qualify for the general classification so the team had to work to neutralise the group. Matteo Compagnoni, José Miguel Moreira and Oscar Orts worked to close the gap and score points with Jimenez. They were able to neutralise the group and Oscar took a hard fought 5th position.

In the overall Trofeo Cabedo classification Oscar Orts was 4th and Eleazar Jimenez 5th. The team managed to be the best team overall.

“I also had a good feeling today. I tried to stay ahead and help Eleazar. In the end, in the sprint we couldn’t be as close together as we would have liked. Even so, we both finished in the top 5 of the general classification and second in both the first year and the regional classification. In that final work both Matteo and Moreira did a great job. I wanted to save my energy to help Eleazar and I think the work was worth it”, were the words of Oscar Orts who closes a very regular Trofeo Cabedo.

“The initial breakaway was great for us. I just had to keep an eye on those who were going for the overall. Things went wrong for us with so many riders going away, but the team’s work was brutal. In the end we were only thinking about the overall. I lacked the strength at the end and that’s why I’m a bit angry that I couldn’t finish off the work of my team-mates. Even so, we leave the race satisfied and with a good feeling for what is to come”, said Eleazar Jimenez, who together with Oscar Orts finished in the top positions of a high level Trofeo Cabedo.
