Béjar and Guijuelo, next challenges for the junior team

After debuting in the Circuito del Guadiana that opened the Copa de España, the junior team of Polti Kometa will compete in the province of Salamanca in two races of very recent creation. The Trofeo Junior Ayuntamiento de Béjar and the Trofeo Junior Villa de Guijuelo are in their second year in the calendar and will give continuity to the team’s competition.

The two national races will be a new test that will give clarity on the recent beginning of season and, also, will suppose the debut of several cyclists who will take part in both races. The cyclists will compete on Saturday from 16h and on Sunday from 11h.

The first day, the shorter of the two, will be very demanding. During the 71.7 kilometres that the cyclists will have to face, they will find a steep profile with two mountain passes: the puerto San Miguel de Valero (5km-5.7%) and the alto de Cristóbal (7.8km-4.5%). In addition, there will be two intermediate sprints as part of the dispute of the intermediate prizes. The finish, finally, will be uphill in the town of Béjar to complete a race with a high cumulative gradient.

The second race, longer but more favourable, will be 93 kilometres long. It will also have twointermediate sprints and two mountain prizes, as on the previous day. The puerto de Palomas (5.7km-3.3%) and the Sierra de Tonda (3.4km-3%) will be the two scoring passes, located in the final part of the race, which will maintain an uphill profile until the end of the race in the town of Guijuelo.

Isaac Cantón, director of the junior team: “This week the weather is expected to be adverse, but we are going with a team with ambition and eager to compete in both races. Some of the riders who did not compete in Don Benito will be making their debut”.

Robinsón Quijano: “I am very happy, very motivated, eager to help the team and I am sure that everything will go very well”.
