“The team did a good job every day”

Gipuzkoa Itzulia | Stage 4: Segura – Segura (69,2 km)

Double for Héctor Álvarez (Lucta). Stage and final leadership for the cyclist from Castellón in this edition of the Gipuzkoako Itzulia in which the junior team of the Contador Foundation made its debut as a participating team. The Hungarian Balint Feldhoffer, the best asset of the team in the classification, fell to the 11 position in the final general classification. Álvarez formed a breakaway with Eneko Ortega (Besa) and Ibai Irrisarri (Limousin) that broke, after an attack by the Levantine, on the Barbaris ramps. There, the chasing group was also selected, where Balint Feldhoffer and Iván Loaisa resisted until near the summit, finally losing time. Felhoffer, 13th, gave up 2’35”.

“Although short, Monday’s stage was possibly the hardest of all the stages”, explains Isaac Cantón. “The initial idea we had was to try to send people ahead of us in order to anticipate race situations that could arise when the going got tougher. We were going to find wet areas, which added danger and uncertainty to the development of the race, but it wasn’t something important. The team did a good job, not only today, but all these days, and it’s always nice to compete in the Basque Country. The atmosphere in all the stages was exceptional, the guys enjoyed a lot and we hope to come back in the future”. The EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team would finish as the third team in the overall team classification of the race.
