Offensive Ramón Fernández in a Trofeo San José with great collective work

76º Gran Premio San José
Ricobayo de Alba – Muelas del Pan ( 161,3 km)

Sixth place for Ramón Fernández, the best U23 rider of the race in this edition, in a 2023 edition of the Trofeo San José in which the Costa Rican rider Jason (Lasal-Louriña) won. The Asturian went on the attack on the Alto de Molinos de Villaflor together with David Domínguez, to give up on the Catalan rider’s wheel later and fight from the chasing group.

Fernández, in his offensive, gave continuity to the great work deployed by the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team U23 in the previous kilometres, when the Madrid squad took the reins of the peloton to break down a breakaway of five riders (Gabriel Ochando, Zamora Enamora; Álvaro Polo, High Level-GSport; Iñaki Errazquin, Padronés-Cortizo; Mario Granero, Brocar-ALÉ; and Brayden Bloch, Ciclos Oleka which was more than two minutes behind before the start of the climb to Castillo de Alba and Molinos de Villaflor.

Ramón Fernández: “When there were about 40 kilometres or so to go the team started to pull, we had no presence in that breakaway and we didn’t want to leave them too much time to spare. We finally caught them before the start of the last climb, where David Domínguez and I started. We went together until the top, where he let me go. I took third place, but the small group that was coming up took over. Rus started about 500 metres from the end, I didn’t have the legs to move that far, so I started about 300 or so to finally finish third”.
