EOLO KOMETA shines in the queen stage of the Tour of Hungary

Tour de Hongrie (2.PRO)
3ª etapa: Martonvasar - Dobogoko (206km)

Great result in the Tour of Hungary, with the team victory of the stage and the top-10 of Davide Piganzoli as a climax, in the hardest day of the race. The team had a presence in the breakaway, three riders in the group of favourites and even Andrea Garosio’s attack in the last kilometres.

A great day, a great result and the feeling that the young riders of EOLO KOMETA have taken a huge step forward today in the queen stage of the Tour of Hungary. The more than 200 kilometres of the stage were dominated by a breakaway with David Martín in the first part. Understanding and good relays for them, looking to extend the advantage that reached 6 minutes. The speed of the leading group did not allow them to dream of victory and Martín was left behind in the second pass through Pilisszántó.

It was the turn of our youngsters, who could stay and found their place in the leader’s group. Garosio, Álex Martín and Davide Piganzoli rode there. Attacks and counterattacks, fighting for the win. Garosio tried, taking advantage of a break among the favourites. It was not for long time, but Piganzoli gave it all to finish 9th (he also occupies that position in the general classification) and the rest also held on in that group of chosen riders, with Martín 13th and Garosio 16th. Thanks to the collective effort, the team victory was achieved, which has a special meaning on a demanding day like today.

Biagio Conte: “I am particularly happy with today’s result, especially because we achieved it with our youngest riders and giving a very strong team image. I want to mention David Martin, his breakaway and visibility in the first part of the race. All day they rode in the peloton with the protection of Fancellu and Pietrobon, and then in the hardest part Garosio, Piganzoli and Álex Martín were very good looking for the best result. A top-10, the team win and tomorrow the final sprint stage where we will have to try for a good result”.

Davide Piganzoli: “The team did a great job to get to the decisive section in the best position and situation. We were in a small group of about 25 riders and on the last climb there were a lot of attacks but in the end we reached the sprint with one rider in the lead. I think that having three team-mates in that group is a great result and we should be happy”.
