Diego Pablo Sevilla loses the mountain jersey at Vuelta a Burgos
Vuelta a Burgos (2.PRO)
Stage 2: Vivar del Cid – Villadiego (158km)
A brave defence of the mountains jersey for Diego Pablo Sevilla, who was part of the breakway for the second consecutive day with his most direct rivals for the classification. It was an unsuccessful attempt, as Azparren (EUK) attacked in the area of the climbs to score the maximum points and get the jersey from the Madrid rider.
A lost battle, but there are still another three days to go to dispute this and other objectives of the competition. The big crash in the final part, less than a kilometre from the finish line, left EOLO Kometa with Alessandro Fedeli and David Martín involved and unable to compete in the sprint. Fortunately, none of the riders suffered injuries and all of them will continue in the Vuelta a Burgos.
Diego Pablo Sevilla: “We wanted to be in the breakaway and get points in the three climbs, but the truth is that we have been very vigilant and I have not been able to manage the situation. Azparren got away from us, the bunch caught us and although I moved to score, it wasn’t enough. Tomorrow will be another day, with other options and already thinking about the overall with Fortunato”.
