Arnau Gilabert and David Martín, best times of the Foundation’s riders in the prologue against the clock in Toro

38º Vuelta a Zamora
Stage 1: Toro – Toro (2,8 km ITT)

The town of Toro hosted on Tuesday afternoon the opening time trial of a new edition of the Vuelta a Zamora, a small urban time trial with a technical route in which the riders had to negotiate slabs and some cobbled sections, a fast descent and manage the slopes of Cuesta Cavila to the Plaza de San Agustín, where the finish was located. An initial fraction, in short, to generate small differences in which the U23 structure of the Foundation had three riders among the first sixteen.

Catalan Arnau Gilabert finished 12th, 10″ behind the time of 4’08” set by Francisco Rus García (Cortizo), winner of the stage and therefore first leader of the provisional classification. Gilabert was the fifth rider among the U23 riders in this first stage in Zamora.

David Martín from Seville finished one place later, thirteenth, 11″ seconds behind Rus. José Luis Medina from Cadiz finished 16th, 12″ behind. Vicente Hernáiz (27th) lost 16 seconds and Joan Martí Bennassar (40th), 20″. Edu Pérez-Landaluce finished 27 seconds behind Rus, in 66th place. The EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team left Toro with the third position in the overall team classification.

This Wednesday, again with evening timetable, a second stage, first in line, that will connect Valcabado with the populous Benavente on 149,4 kilometres.
