Zumaia and Durango, two races on the Basque Country for the junior team

The junior team had a good feeling during their time in Salamanca. Although the race had to be suspended on Saturday due to the weather, the first victory of the recently started season came on Sunday. After a weekend with mixed feelings, they are back to compete and they do it with another double, this time in the Basque Country.

Zumaia will be the first round of the prestigious Torneo Euskal Herria and Durango will also be the first round of the Kopa Bizkaia. Both races have been on the Basque calendar for years and will be very well attended.

On Saturday, the cyclists will tackle 90 kilometres of winding terrain, with no major climbs but no rest until the final part of the race, where they will have to face the short but demanding Garate (2.9km-7.44%), which’s top will be just nine kilometres from the finish.

On Sunday, the distance of the race will be less; 78 kilometres, which will be very demanding in terms of climbing that will be accumulated along the route. The race will be divided into two very obvious parts: the first, the most “comfortable”, will consist of three laps of the alto de Miota, which could well count as a mountain pass, but will be a special sprint. The second will concentrate the hardest part of the route with the two climbs to Goiuria, the second with slopes of more than 10%.5.17km-4.9%) (5km-5.5%).

“This week we return to compete with the same enthusiasm and excitement as last weekend”, explains Isaac Cantón, the sports director. With regard to the two races in the Basque Country, he adds: “racing in the Basque Country is always a plus of motivation; it will be a tough weekend both for the race and the weather. They are two races in which we will have to be very focus from start to finish. The team is doing well and the most important thing is that they learn to compete as a team”.

Line-up: Iker Díaz, Eleazar Jiménez, Pablo Leno, Iván Loaisa, Carlos Moreno, Hugo Pradas and Héctor Teruel.
