Trofeo Ayuntamiento Zamora and Gran Premio San José, two ‘classics’ of the u-23 calendar

Trofeo Ayuntamineto Zamora y GP San José
16-17/03

While part of the team is competing in the Vuelta a Extremadura, another six riders from Team Polti Kometa will travel to Zamora for two well-known races in the national calendar. On Saturday they will compete in the 43rd Trofeo Excmo Ayto de Zamora and on Sunday in the 77th Trofeo Caja Rural de ciclismo Gran Premio San José.

On the first of the two days, the race will be shorter than usual, with a distance of just over 80 kilometres. During the race, which will start and finish in Zamora, the cyclists will face three 3rd category climbs which will reduce the bunch in the event of a possible mass finish. The last climb (1.7km) will be crowned just seven kilometres from the finish line.

On the second day, on the other hand, the race will be longer, with 161.3 kilometres and 5 summits to overcome, in addition to the finish, which will also be at a high point. Along the way, there will also be a number of special sprint prizes. The day will be marked by the constant ups and downs that the riders will have to face before finally tackling the 700-metre climb that will take them to the finish line.

Riccardo Archetti: “it’s my first race of the season, I’m coming back from a winter period in which I worked well and I hope to be in good shape for the debut… The expectations for the race are definitely to test my legs and I hope to be competitive and together with the team to aim for the top step of the podium”.

Miguel Gómez, sports team director: “we have a very competitive squad for this race with, in addition, two cyclists who are making their debut. The riders will adapt very well to the profile and we also have the alternative of Dario, who is in great shape as he showed in Aiztondo. The finish of the first stage, with the change of route, is much more benign for a possible sprint finish. Sunday is a classic type of race where the narrow roads, the weather and the tension usually come together. We will be racing with six riders as we are doubling up for the Vuelta a Extremadura and we have some riders in the squad who are ill. Despite this, we are planning to fight for the victory”.

Line-up: Riccardo Archetti, Gabriele Bessega, Tommaso Bessega, Balint Feldhoffer, Dario Giuliano and Manuel Sanroma.
