Tour of the Alps ahead: a tough race to shine
The Tour of the Alps, a race that take place between Austria and Italy through the beautiful regions of Tyrol, Südtirol and Trentino, is the new goal of Team Polti Kometa after the Giro del Abruzzo with a top-10 finish in the general classification.
Five days in which the altitude of 1400 metres will be exceeded several times: mountains, spectacular landscapes and the aim of adding kilometres and great results. The toughness of the race will be felt with only one chance for fast riders (and where the breakaway can surprise) on the first day. The fourth stage between Leifers and Borgo Valsugana will probably be decisive, with more than 141 kilometres and the climbs of Passo de Compet and Passo Vetriolo as judges of the race. Watch out also for the Schwaz circuit with the climbs of Weerberg and Pillberg on the third day, although with two first category climbs in the final stage everything can be decided in Levico Terme.
Team Polti Kometa has a high quality line-up, with climber Matteo Fabbro leading a young block of riders for mountain days. Joining him will be Colombian Germán Gómez and Davide Piganzoli, who is very excited about this climbers’ race in Italy. The combativeness and ambition is guaranteed with the brothers Davide and Mattia Bais, who will compete at home in Trentino, a race that is always special for them. Completing the line-up are Spaniard Fran Muñoz and Andrea Garosio, who is also having a great season.
On the roads where he grew up as a cyclist, and where he knows every corner, Davide Bais is even more excited about this Tour of the Alps: “We are coming from a high altitude training camp in Sierra Nevada (Spain), working very well with this objectivegoal in mind. This race is one of the hardest of the year with so many climbs, and a very special competition for both me and Mattia in our homeland of Trentino. I’m sure we will achieve great results”.
Matteo Fabbro comments on his team’s and his personal ambitions after a month’s break from competition in which he has taken the opportunity to concentrate at high altitude and prepare for these events: “After the training camp on Teide (Spain), I have rested for a few days at home to recharge my batteries and face the Tour of the Alps with great motivation. I would like to regain my good feelings and continue on the road to the Giro d’Italia with a good performance here”.
Sport director Stefano Zanatta values the participation of Polti Kometa in the Tour of the Alps: “It’s a race we know well and I think it’s the most important race to prepare for the Giro d’Italia. The riders use it as a test to check their condition, and that’s how we approached it. We’ve been training at altitude with many of them and I think we can play a great role in the breakaways, with the Bais brothers riding at home, and always with Fabbro and Piganzoli as a reference for the decisive moments”.
