Giro d’Abruzzo final stage confirms Paul Double’s seventh GC position

Giro d’Abruzzo (2.1)
Stage 4: Montorio al Vomano – L’Aquila (173 km)

In a Classic-style final act, Paul Double confirms his seventh overall position in the Giro d’Abruzzo built since before yesterday. Well assisted by teammates who did not join the breakaway and escorted him through the ups and downs towards L’Aquila, the English climber remained firmly in the main peloton when Sivakov (subsequently stage winner), Lutsenko (race winner) and Bennett launched the attack on the Castel del Monte KOM.

His eleventh place on the finish line is the seal on four days in the heart of Italy where Team Polti Kometa collected a podium, two top-10 stage finishes, and a GC top-10 overall in addition to Germán Gómez final top-30.

“I really like racing in Italy and today we finalized a rather solid week,” says Double. “On a tough day, with many big names up there, I managed to stay where I needed to be and I’d say I can be happy about it.”

This is the comment from sports director Giovanni Ellena: “Beyond the good result, my greatest satisfaction is the work of these guys. A young group that keeps growing.”
