Tommaso Bessega top 10 on the first race day of the under 23 team

The under 23 team of the Polti Kometa development started the road season this afternoon on Memorial Manuel Sanroma and Tommaso Bessega earned a 6th spot on the uphill finish on Ermita Virgen de los Santos five seconds behind the winner.

As Bessega had already said, he was in good shape and looking forward to the first races, and it didn’t take him long to prove it. The race, fast from the start, had n early crash that did not affect the team riders. Midway through the race, a breakaway of four riders held a lead of just over a minute. The team did not hesitate to start working and hunt down the breakaway on the second pass over the Alto de la Garganta with 50 kilometres to the finish line.

In the last kilometres of the stage, two riders tried to surprise the peloton with an late attack that almost reached the finish line, as the last unit was absorbed 400 metres from the finish line. In that uphill finish, Bessega came in 6th place.

Rafael Diaz Justo, under 23 team sports director: “It was a fast but controlled race. We wanted to fight for the race with Tommasso, but the finish was too hard”.
