The U19 structure resumes competitions in Castellón and León

Saturday 25 march | Trofeu Mas de la Costa: Llucena – Llucena (78,5 km) | III Gran Premio Ayuntamiento de Valdefresno (93 km)
Sunday 26 march | X Trofeo Julian Borràs: Càlig – Càlig (98 km) | XXX Memorial Chely Álvarez (86 km)

A new weekend full of activity is coming for the U19 structure of the Fundación Contador. The team led by Gorka Beloki with the assistance of Isaac Cantón will face four races, two on Saturday and two on Sunday, with the second and final weekend of the Trofeo Victor Cabedo and two one-day races organized by Club Deportivo Bembibre Ciclismo in León.

The Trofeo Víctor Cabedo is resolved this weekend with two very interesting proposals. Iker Díaz, Pablo Leno, Álvar Martín, Balazs Pollner, the newcomer Iván Polo, Hugo Pradas and Manuel Sanroma will be the members of the line-up for the two races in which the overall will be decided. Two new sporting commitments in the history of the Trophy, as they are two new venues, which propose orographic hardness and tactical-strategic challenges.

The Trofeo Mas de la Costa is not the longest in terms of mileage, but it presents an accumulated positive difference in altitude of 1,500 metres, such is the geography of the Maestrazgo, and above all it presents an always demanding pass: the Alto de Infantería. This climb, a Cabedo classic in other trophies, is just under three kilometres long, but with an average gradient of close to 10%. Located near the finish line, the approach to Llucena is also uphill. On Sunday, the Julian Borràs de Càleig Trophy proposes a circuit where there is no shortage of hills that mark the selection and that will have to be run ten times.

Already present in the calendar of the team in 2022, the Trofeo Ayuntamiento de Valdefresno (victory then for Joan Cadena) and the Memorial Chely Álvarez will count again with the participation of the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team of the category. For the tour of Bierzo Gorka Beloki has summoned the riders Gerard Cano, Daniel Díaz, Miguel Domínguez, Balint Feldhoffer, Hector García, Mario Gómez, Iván Loaisa; a squad with four riders of second year in the category and three of first.

The two races organised by the Club Deportivo Bemibre have, each with their own singularity, similar features: terrain exposed to the action of the wind, passing through very windy areas and climbs of greater difficulty in terms of number. More demanding in terms of the mountain passes to manage will be Sunday’s event, a Memorial Chely Álvarez for its anniversary, thirty editions disputed with the 2023 edition. The Alto de Onamio, with a technical downhill section, and the San Pedro Castañero ramps, near the finish, will mark the selection. On Saturday, with a route mainly through the historical region of La Sobarriba, the winds of the moors could be more important.
