The “Tuscan triptych” ends tomorrow in Peccioli

Two riders who raced in France on Sunday, four who simultaneously raced in Larciano (including two who have also raced today in the Giro della Toscana) and one who’s returning to racing after a month. This is how Team Polti Kometa will line up for the Coppa Sabatini, which will conclude the trio of Tuscan classics but certainly not the series of Italian classics this week.

Over 197 kilometers will be covered, with an elevation profile that doesn’t allow for easy predictions: it suits both climbers and one-day victory hunters. The course begins with the Legoli climb, followed by six laps each of the Montefoscoli and Terricciola climbs, as well as the Greta’s wall. Finally the Peccioli hill will be tackled twice, with the second ascent marking the finish line.

Representing Polti Kometa on the roads of the Valdera will be Andrea Pietrobon and Javier Serrano (coming from the GP Fourmies), Germán Gómez returning to competition after Getxo, Davide Bais and De Cassan who are coming off the GP Industria & Artigianato as well as Davide Piganzoli and Fernando Tercero, who are the only two to complete the entire Tuscan triptych.

Tercero: “We’re coming off two pretty tough races and we’ll need to stay fully focused on every meter as, with those small but frequent uphills, the main group of contenders can form at any moment. We’ll give it our all to achieve the best result possible!”

Sports director Giovanni Ellena: “The Coppa Sabatini has been increasing in elevation year by year and tomorrow we’ll nearly reach three thousand meters. How the race will unfold depends on both the wind, strong in this area, and how the teams approach the race itself. We are prepared for any scenario with a squad that covers a wide range of characteristics, from a rider suited for tight sprints like Serrano to a climber like Piganzoli and many good attackers.”
