“The Memorial Valenciaga is one of the big objectives of the year for everyone”

51º Memorial Valenciaga
Eibar – Santuario de Arrate (153,5 km)

Fourth Memorial Valenciaga for Ramón Fernández. Second for Arnau Gilabert. The first for both as teammates. And for both the Asturian and the Catalan, a very special race. Both share that spell for a race of great prestige that attracts the presence of many personalities, scouts and representatives. The professionalism of tomorrow will be cooked in the Eibar stewpot. Whoever wins the Valenciaga has the doors to professionalism open to them. The 2021 edition, under really adverse weather conditions, left its mark on the memory.

Ramón Fernández faces what will be his fourth appearance in Eibar. “It is one of my favourite races of the year, if not the one I like the most. A tough race, for climbers, with a finish on such a mythical summit for cycling as Arrate. Last year I finished ninth and it was a nice experience. The Valenciaga is one of the big objectives of the year for everyone. We are travelling with a lot of enthusiasm and a team that is going strong”.

Arnau Gilabert made his debut in the Dantesque edition of 2021: “It marked me. In fact, the profile picture I use is from the final climb to Arrate. It was a very hard day, possibly the hardest day I’ve ever had on a bike. Very cold, a lot of physical and psychological wear and tear… But I had to finish, no matter what. Being in the Valenciaga team this year is a sign that the team trusts me and believes that I can contribute. We have team-mates who are very strong and can do a good job”.
