The magic, the history, the beauty: il Lombardia

Il Lombardia (1.UWT)
Saturday, Oct. 7

The only way to introduce the Lombardia is to imagine it. To close your eyes and listen to the noise of the people who will crowd the Ghisallo climb or the ramps leading to Bergamo Alta, to think about the toughness of a race that everyone dreams of winning, to savor the allure of the last big event of the season. A magical race, a race in which beautiful pages of the history of the sport have been written, a race in which EOLO KOMETA participates with pride and gratitude because being here is the first beautiful thing. To be there, and to try to leave a mark on a monument of cycling with a team that will have Lorenzo Fortunato as its spearhead, flanked by Alessandro Fancellu, Mattia Bais, Erik Fetter, Andrea Garosio, Davide Piganzoli and Diego Sevilla.

This year the race will start in Como and arrive in Bergamo after 248, very long and very hard kilometers. The historic Ghisallo will be the first climb of the day with the peloton then aiming for Lecco to begin the series of climbs leading to the finish line: the Roncola, Berbenno, Dossena, Zambla Alta and Passo di Ganda. After this climb there will be the long Selvino descent that will take the group toward Bergamo with the beautiful (and very tough) finish in the Upper City. Entering from Porta Garibaldi and climbing on cobblestones in a climb always over 10 percent and peaks at 12 percent, you will then pass Porta Sant’Agostino to face the last kilometer slightly downhill.

Biagio Conte is ready to present this race: “The route is the opposite of last year’s, starting in Como and arriving in Bergamo: a route that gives nothing as nothing gives this race, the winners of the past prove it and also this year there will be champions like Pogacar, Roglic, Mass and many others. We will try to be protagonists as we have always tried to do, and we will try to be protagonists right away in the breakaway of the day with Bais, Fetter but also with Sevilla who is showing that he is doing well. Fancellu and Garosio will have to try to keep Fortunato and Piganzoli in front in the climbs of the day: they will be our spearheads, with Fortunato who has always shown that he is doing well in challenging races and Piganzoli who is really growing thanks to the work done with the team. For him this race will be yet another proof of growth.”
