The junior team repeats in the Copa de España

XLIX Gran Premio Montemayor
Montemayor - Montemayor (134km)

The Copa de España repeats for the second week in a row before taking a break until June. The junior team will travel to Cordoba, specifically to the town of Montemayor to compete in the XLIX Gran Premio Montemayor.

After a weekend with the celebration of the Trofeu 15 d’abril where Jose Miguel Moreira was present in a cut to nearly reached the finish line and in which Oscar Orts came close to the podium with his fourth position, the team will arrive with more energy and desire, if possible. Orts is the best placed cyclist in the classification for the team, in fourth place.

Next to Orts will be Moreira, who was very active in La Canonja, as well as Héctor Teruel. In addition, Carlos Moreno and Hugo Pradas from Madrid together with Iván Loaisa, Eleazar Jimenez and Pablo Leno will form the ‘seven’ that will travel to Montemayor.

The race maintains the same route as the 2023 edition with two laps between the towns of Montemayor, Espejo, Castro del Río, Llano del Espinar and Montilla to return again to Montemayor. The race, with a ‘leg-breaker’ profile and 134 kilometres, will have two scoring mountain passes and two intermediate sprints during the race, the latter located in the town of Montilla. The Alto de Llanos del Espinar (3rd) will be the climb that counts towards the mountain classification, but not the only one that the cyclists will have to overcome. The finish will be very favourable towards the finish line where the last few metres will be uphill (0.6km-5.2%).

Isaac Cantón, director of the junior team, will travel to Montemayor “with Oscar Orts 4th and with the desire to fight for the victory and to continue adding for the general classification”.

Óscar Orts arrives at Montemayor in fourth position in the overall classification of the Spanish Cup and in very good shape as his most recent results show: “I am feeling better and better. I’m looking forward to Sunday’s race because I was close to competing in La Canonja. I would like to get rid of the thorn in my side”. The personal and collective objective is clear before the third appointment with the Cup: “The intention is to improve in the general classification and why not, to take the lead. We are going with a great team and we are working for it”.
