The debut of the Clásica de Padrón in the Spanish Cup / Copa de España Élite Sub23 will have to wait. The sixth round of the competition has been postponed until a date yet to be defined as a result of the health situation that the town of Padrón in A Coruña is going through these days. The organisation of the Club Ciclista Padronés confirmed this circumstance on Thursday afternoon and the Spanish Federation has done the same this Friday morning.
The incidence of coronavirus cases in Padrón is high and exceeds 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on 14 days. The town is among the five Galician towns that will implement a maximum level of restrictions and the Galician health authorities initiated a screening among the population. It was not the ideal context for the celebration of the competition and the Padronés Cycling Club, following instructions from the town council, was forced to take this decision.

“As soon as we are allowed to do so, we will look for a new date to hold the event. The Padronés Cycling Club regrets this announcement being so close to the date and after all the work done, but circumstances dictate and people’s health takes precedence. We ask for maximum diffusion to avoid unnecessary displacements”, said the club from A Coruña.
The U23 team of the Fundación Contador was going to travel with a team formed by the riders Vicente Hernaiz, Álvaro García, Álex Martín, David Martín, the Italian Andrea Montoli, Yago Segovia and Fernando Tercero. The priority is people’s health and from the U23 structure of the Contador Foundation we want to convey our support and encouragement to the organisers of the race and the residents of the town.
