Team Polti Kometa splits up for the Tour of Hungary

Tour of Hungary (2.PRO)
From 8 to 12 May

With the Giro d’Italia already underway, a second block of Team Polti Kometa will be taking on the Tour of Hungary from Wednesday. A very important race for the team and for its sponsor Kometa, in which Hungarian rider Erik Fetter will also be present.

The line up of riders who will take part in the competition will be led by the local rider, who will be looking to shine at home, and to compete in some of the stage finishes that can be really well adapted to him. Alongside him, Manuel Peñalver, perfectly accompanied by David Martín and Javier Serrano, will be in the mass finishes. The three of them will form a trio that should be in the fight for victory on the first, second and fourth day. With options in the queen stage on Friday, the arrival at the “top of Hungary” in Gyöngyös-Kékestetó with the previous passage through Matraháza will have Álex Martín as a reference, who has been showing a great level in that kind of finishes. The line-up is completed by Diego Pablo Sevilla, the road captain who will contribute with his experience and will collaborate in achieving the team’s objectives.

And we have chosen Fetter, of course, to introduce us to the route of the Tour of Hungary. “It’s a very interesting route, where I think we’ll see two sprints on both the first and second day, but then the mountains come in. We finish at the highest point of the country on a day that will be the queen stage. Gyöngyös-Kékestetó has already been the finish of the Tour of Hungary and it will be the day for climbers with 3 steep kilometres in the hardest part of the climb. The option for sprinters will return on the fourth stage, with a climb that can select the bunch, while on the last day we will again have a demanding day with the circuit that is done three times and very hard ramps in the climb, to decide the general classification”.

Sports director Biagio Conte analyses Team Polti Kometa’s chances in Tour of Hungary: “It’s a very important race for us, the home of our sponsor Kometa and a place to shine. There will be a high level of competition, with up to eight WorldTeam teams, but I have a lot of confidence in Erik Fetter who is racing at home and will be very motivated; we will fight for the sprint finishes with Manuel Peñalver helped by David Martín and Javier Serrano to try to take the victory. In the general classification, our man will be Álex Martín who has two chances in the hardest stages while Diego Pablo Sevilla is our reference and will help us to be able to have a presence and to race organised looking for the best possible success in Hungary”.
