Robinson Rincón wins in Guijuelo

TROFEO VILLA DE GUIJUELO
GUIJUELO-GUIJUELO (93KM)

After the cancellation of the previous day of the Trofeo Ayuntamiento de Béjar due to inclement weather, Guijuelo would have better luck and, except for a slight modification in the route, the race could run normally. The team was the protagonist during the whole day and Robinsón Rincón won the first victory of the season.

The race started at 11 o’clock in the morning with a 93-kilometre route and two mountain passes ahead. A first breakaway of one rider managed 52 seconds as the biggest margin, but thanks to the work of the team together with other interested squads, they increased the pace in the bunch which made the big group to unify again. The group continued to ride at a high pace and the steep climbs in the middle of the race meant that many riders lost contact. In the bunch, the team took responsibility for the chase when any of the group members tried to escape.

After the last mountain pass Iker Díaz attacked with Einar Artidiello. Shortly after, Díaz went solo, achieving a maximum gap of 38 seconds. He held the lead for more than 20 kilometres and was caught just six kilometres from the finish line. The group broke up in the last slopes before the arrival at the Villa de Guijuelo and the team placed 4 riders in a group of 10 just 3 kilometres from the finish line. The victory went to Robinsón Rincón. José Miguel Moreira was second, completing a brilliant performance by the team.

Isaac Canton, sports director of the team explained the great work of the cyclists in the fight for the victory: “we started the race with the idea to forgot yesterday’s race because we came with desire and ambition. We have to keep our feet on the ground, but we had a very strong team to fight for the victory. The riders rode excellently, which is what we were most interested in. In the end, we were able to win by a majority. This is good to know that the winter work is well done and it gives us motivation for the next races. Iker made a very good move and was just short of winning. The strategy was to go on the attack and in the end we did it”.

Robinsón Rincón, winner of the Trofeo Villa de Guijuelo: “I am very happy for the work we did with the team and for being able to return the trust they have given to me. Every day I am happier to be with this family and to keep learning from Isaac and all the staff. Being away from home is not easy but this motivates me a lot”.
