Pablo García 9th in Herrera del Duque

Vuelta a Extremadura
Stage 2: Guareña - Herrera del Duque (141km)

After a day marked by the difficulty to form a breakaway, the bunch arrived compact at the foot of the last climb where Pablo García was able to manage the effort and finish 9th.

The second stage of the Vuelta Extremadura was marked by the different breakaway attempts that broke the calm of the bunch. It was not until 60 kilometres to the finish line that the breakaway that would go the furthest was made. The team’s work together with other interested squads reduced the gap of the big group again with the escapees before the start of the final climb.

The final climb to the castle of Herrera del Duque, was very explosive, meant that García had to regulate himself, going from strength to strength until he reached the finish line in 9th place.

Pablo will face the last stage, finishing in Piornal (1st), in 5th position in the general classification at 31″. He will also be wearing the green jersey as leader of the most regular rider classification.

Antonio Gonzalez, explained the hardness of the finish at the end of the stage: “the end of the stage was very hard. As a team we did a great job to keep the breakaway at a short distance and Pablo, Luca and I were very well placed. We gave everything we had and tomorrow we will go on the attack”.

“The race is still open, with the leading riders within thirty seconds of each other and a very demanding profile. We will try to be attentive from the start”, explained Rafel Diaz, sports team director. “We are going to be brave,” he added.
