Multiple offensives, constant fighting and fifth place for Edo Alleva on the final climb

47 Vuelta Ciclista a Ávila
Stage 1: Ávila – Ávila (100,7 km)

Relatively controlled breakaway, high temperatures and strong headwind in some stages, with some crashes, characterised the opening of the organisational revival of the Vuelta Ciclista a Ávila, a first stage of the Avila evening round in which the second of the two passes over the Alto de Riofrío, within the last 20 kilometres, posed many possibilities for the resolution of the fraction. In the end, despite various movements, a grouping took shape towards the finish line. And after the final climb to the Plaza de Santa Teresa, Gabriel Ochando (Zamora Enamora) won, with fifth place for a combative Edoardo Alleva.

The Foundation’s U23 squad played a very active role, with Sebastiano Minoia, Edoardo Alleva and the brothers Tommaso and Gabriele Bessega getting involved in many offensive movements on the final lap, with the breakaway of the day, of three riders, riding at that time with a minute and a half to go. Haimar Etxeberria, in his return to competition, finished the day more calmly, after being involved in one of the pile-ups that took place in the middle of the race.

Gabriele and Fabrizio Castillo (Frutas Torres) would catch up with Jesús García (Brócoli) and Owen Lightfoot (Maglia) in the rest area before the last climb to Ríofrio. A quartet that held on with half a minute while some riders came from behind, among them Andrea Montoli Jorge Gálvez (Zamora), Elkvin Maraver (Maglia) or Pablo García (Caja Rural). From the Riofrio pass, seven riders at the front with double blue representation. From that group, first Montoli and then Lightfoot would stand out, but their attempt died at the gates of the final climb.
