The arrival of August brings with it the opening of a competitive front dominated by national and regional teams. World Championships in different modalities and Spanish Road Championships. The first fortnight of the month concentrates an intense agenda for the riders of the Kometa Cycling Team.
The first appointment comes with the European Championships. On August 7, a new edition of the European Championships will begin in Alkmaar (Netherlands). The Kometa Cycling Youth Team brings three riders to the national team. Carlos Rodriguez, Raul Garcia and Javi Serrano will be part of a team that will have its strong appointments from Wednesday and Friday.
On 22.4 kilometres the first day of the competition the time trial of the junior category will be disputed. On 115 kilometers, resulting from the ten laps that will be given to a circuit of 11.5 kilometers, will take place the test in route.
Then, a few days later, the Spanish Championships arrive. To begin, on Sunday, a morning time trial of 19 kilometers. On Monday, in the long-distance race, 117.8 kilometers with start and finish in Pravia. This will be the menu of the Spanish Junior Championships, which will take place in the Principality of Asturias and will also cover other master categories. Two days in which the Kometa Cycling Team will have a varied presence.
San Román de Candamo, a few weeks ago headquarters of its meeting of contemporary creation and rural world ‘Néxodos’, hosts a Sunday where all the time trials will be disputed. Last year, in Soria, Carlos Rodríguez from Granada won this title for the Andalusian national team.
Monday’s route presents a very broken route, with steps through Cabruñana, Ases and Santoseso. A lot of terrain for attacks and escapes and many difficult routes for control. It is intuited that it can be solved in a very reduced sprint. The Basque Ion Barrenetxea defends a title he won in the streets of Soria after an attack that allowed him to lead the pack in two seconds.
Carlos Rodríguez and José Luis Medina, with the Andalusian team; Fernando Tercero, with the Castilla-La Mancha team; Juan José Rosal and Gerard Bofill, with the Catalan team; Alejandro Luna, Raúl García and Javi Serrano, in Madrid; Pablo Gutiérrez, with Cantabria, and Francesc Bennassar with the Balearic Islands team, are the riders summoned by their respective regional teams.
Both Serrano and García will travel to the Principality directly from the World Championships. Their presence in the continental competition will prevent them from facing the timed race, but the forecast is that they will be able to face the bottom of the road on Monday. The World Championships will take place in the German city of Frankfurt between Wednesday 14 August and Sunday 18.
