Marton Dina shines in Hungarian breakaway until last kilometre

Tour de Hongrie (2.1)
Stage 1: Csakvar – Szekesfehervar (198km)

How beautiful it is to ride the roads of your country, to feel the warmth of your fans and to be able to compete in the race with which you share your flag. Marton Dina went in search of the breakaway on the first day of the Tour of Hungary knowing that this opportunity to shine in front of his home crowd and at the home of Kometa is not something you get to enjoy every day. His attempt and strength in the final part was only 1 kilometre away from reaching the finish line in front.

A breakaway of five riders made its way through the hilly terrain of the day, and Dina also took advantage to contest both the intermediate sprints and the three mountain passes. He was unable to take the leader’s jerseys, but he is in second place in the overall best climber’s classification. A goal for the rest of the race.

The gaps never allowed those at the front to aspire to victory, only four riders resisted at the front with a peloton that always kept them under control and for many kilometres with just a minute and a half advantage. The good final push, with very fast relays and total understanding, seemed to give air to the escapees who pushed hard with less than 15 kilometres to go.

But the bunch had it all figured out. Neutralised with just 1 kilometre to go, it was time to think about the sprint options. The best at the finish, in a very fast and crazy sprint, was David Martin close to the top-10. Marton Dina was on the podium to receive his prize as the best Hungarian of the race.

Marton Dina: “I started the race with very bad legs, but in the end I managed to improve my feelings and get into the breakaway. I tried on the mountain pass, because I wanted to wear this jersey in front of my people. But well, I was able to stay in front, score in the bonus sprints too, a lot of people were shouting my name and cheering me on, at the end I thought we could get to the front but they caught us at 500 metres”.
