Iker Díaz, Mario Gómez and Samuel Flórez made up the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team junior team that this Saturday took part in the tenth and last round of the Kopa Bizkaia of the category, a Trofeo Fundación de Sodupe in which it was necessary to face the Alto de San Cosme up to three times and in which the final victory went to Gómez. The Cantabrian rider came out on top in the final metres together with Jon Conejero (Iturribero) and in the head-to-head he imposed his top speed to score his first victory in the category.
Mario Gómez: “The day went quite well. Both Samu, Iker and I got on perfectly at the start in various race situations and then both Samu and I tried to get out of all the cuts. In the end, unfortunately Samu suffered a mechanical problem and couldn’t make it to the front group that we left the last pass through San Cosme. At the end of the descent, in a small break that occurred in that group, I took advantage and tried it and I could go like Conejero. When it came to the sprint, I was a little bit slower, but in the end I was able to take the victory”.
