Madrid: fourth place in the inaugural team time trial

XXXV Vuelta a Madrid
Stage 1: Chinchón – Chinchón (13,1 km TT)

The monumental Chinchón, with one of the most beautiful squares of the whole peninsular geography, hosted this Tuesday the team time trial that kicked off a new edition of the Vuelta Ciclista a Madrid. A time trial in which the U23 structure of the Contador Foundation, the penultimate team to take the start, set the fourth best time of the day, 11″ behind the record set by Caja Rural-Alea, winner of the stage after riding at more than 50 km / h. Pablo García is the first leader of the race. It was very hot on this summer day in the Comarca de Las Vegas.

Gabriele Raccagni and Edoardo Alleva carried the weight of the team in the first kilometres, emptying themselves to maintain a high and lively pace. Towards the finish Andrea Montoli, Francisco Muñoz and Arnau Gilabert were the riders who arrived more grouped together, with Raúl López and Antonio González a little further back after picking up the baton of the weight of the work in the middle part.

Rafa Díaz Justo, director of the U23 team: “First and demanding contact with the race, a very intense effort under very hot conditions that in the end marked a little the development of the time trial, especially in the final part. We managed to get through the afternoon well, without any major incidents, and we’ll see what the second stage has in store for us now, which is reminiscent at times of the Gran Premio Macario”.
