54º Tour du Limousin
From 17 to 20 August
Second competitive experience in France for the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team this season. After the recent Tour de l’Ain, the blue squad travels to the centre of the neighbouring country to compete in a Tour du Limousin-Novelle-Aquitaine that proposes four days in line without great orographic difficulties. A race of strength and strategy in which several riders of the ProTeam structure have shone in recent years in other projects and now come with the prospect of matching those past successes.
At the front, Luca Wackermann is a bright light in his own right. The Italian rider has won two stages here (in 2018, the second, finishing fourth overall; in 2020, the first) and in the last edition he ended up winning the final overall classification. “It’s a race that I like and that suits my characteristics. I have a good feeling with French races and especially with this Tour du Limousin. I have great memories of the last edition. A beautiful memory. To come back to this race and win where two years ago I had been able to get a stage victory and lost the jersey by a few seconds was especially gratifying. I managed to complete what I couldn’t achieve in 2018,” he recalls.
Francesco Gavazzi, meanwhile, has also been on the podium in this race. It was in the 2017 edition, when he finished third. He also scored a stage win in 2019. Wackermann and Gavazzi will be joined by Briton Mark Christian, Hungarian Erik Fetter, Spaniard Alejandro Ropero and Italians Vincenzo Albanese, after his good performance in the recent Vuelta a Burgos, and Davide Bais complete the ‘seven’ that will battle it out against all the French WorldTour and ProTeam structures and an excellent representation of second category formations in a fabulous setting of lush forests, placid rivers, harmonious cultivated fields, picturesque villages and winding fortresses.
