Javi Serrano debuts with a ninth place in a Clásica de Pascua that closed the Spanish Cup Elite U23 2021

The Spanish Cup Elite U23 closed this Saturday in Galicia with a Clásica de Pascua, postponed due to the pandemic situation, with a sprint resolution for a group of about forty riders in which the fastest was Francisco Zurita (GS Sport) and where Javi Serrano made his official debut in competition with the structure of the Contador Foundation with a ninth position.

A very fast Clasica de Pascua, which finished ahead of schedule, in which the riders led by Rafa Díaz Justo were among the protagonists of the race. First, they set the pace to break one of the breakaways in the early stages. Later, with Fernando Tercero and Yago Segovia entering a breakaway of eleven riders that began to form around kilometre 66.

This breakaway, which also included Marc Brustenga and three representatives of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, would achieve up to two minutes of margin, while behind the Lizarte team imposed a hunting pace that selected the large group. Fernando Tercero was involved in a move in which four riders ended up in the lead with 26 seconds over their pursuers and 47 over the main bunch. There was still the last pass over the short but tough A Pereira. Finally a regrouping would take place and the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team worked hard to control the last kilometres.

Javi Serrano: “The feeling was very good. It was a pity not to be able to finish after all the hard work the team has done all day and after being able to pass the last wall in front. I am very grateful for all the work they have done for me on my first day of competition in these colours. I’m very happy with the team and I’m sure we’re going to have a lot of fun”.
