In cycling, no matter the category, no matter the level, crashes are an intangible that is always there. There can be many circumstances that can lead to a mishap and the consequences can also be diverse. For Nil Aguilera, the mishap he suffered during the Memorial Joan Bautista Llorens in Vila-real, the second qualifying round of the Trofeo Víctor Cabedo 2022, meant his withdrawal and a period of forced relaxation that will prevent him from taking part this weekend in the two races that will resolve this competition.
“I took a roundabout on the right side and between the lanes there was a small island. When I was coming in, taking the exit of the roundabout, a rider appeared on that island and hit me on the left side. These are things that happen in races. I couldn’t do anything to avoid the fall”, recalls the rider from Igualada, one of the signings of the junior team for this season.
“I fell with all my weight on that side, I suffered a strong blow to my shoulder and elbow. It was very painful. I couldn’t even lift my arm. Fortunately there were no fractures, but Guille (Guillermo Gutiérrez, the director) told me that the best thing was to rest to recover well and completely,” he adds.
“It’s a real shame not to be able to count on Nil this weekend. He had started the season in a very good form and was one of the key pieces of the team for the whole Cabedo Trophy, especially for the Segorbe race. Orographically he was doing great. The blow was painful and in the end, with a time trial in the middle and with the postural issue, the best thing to do is to stop and recover. We will miss him, but we have a team with a great level and any of the guys is ready to do a great job”.
