In Villatuerta the breakaway is successful: “The breakaway had a lot going for it”

II Clásica Navarra - Nafarroa Klasikoa
Villatuerta - Villatuerta (109 kilómetros)

In cycling, in the development of the races, it happens that sometimes there are moments and circumstances that already mark the evolution and the resolution of a day. This is what happened this Sunday in the Clásica Navarra, the second edition of which was held in the half-century edition of the Villatuerta Circuit. The solo victory of the Frenchman Dario Giuliano (Team 31 Jolly) was based on a great breakaway, up to 16 units, which as the kilometres went by was selected without the peloton, behind, being able to catch it. Giuliano won and twenty-fifth, riding in the main group, was Miguel Domínguez.

Sixteen riders would stand out after the first of the three concrete sections of the race and among them, in a subsequent development marked by different movements and different alternatives, the last kilometres would bring the definitive attack of Giuliano and a main bunch that never managed to reduce the advantage below 50″ despite the efforts of EOLO-KOMETA, MMR or Electromercantil.

Miguel Domínguez, rider of the U19 structure of the Foundation: “We lost our way in the first part of the race, when fifteen riders went ahead. From kilometre 40 to 70, maybe more, we tried to get in front on several occasions. But in the end it wasn’t possible. The breakaway was riding very hard”. There was no lack of occasional misfortune in the form of a breakdown or a fall: Sergio Calvo was involved in a mishap that affected his participation.
