In Galicia, the end of the road for this course for the Polartec-Kometa
XVII Vuelta a Galicia
From 20 to 23 September
The season of the Polartec-Kometa sub23 comes to an end with the presence in a new edition of the Vuelta a Galicia. The team from Madrid will go to Galicia with a powerful team formed by Carlos García, Sergio García, Joan Martí Bennassar, Jorge Pastor, Alejandro Ropero and the future riders of the continental team José Antonio García and Daniel Viegas. Alejandro Regueiro was expected to participate, but he is not recovering from persistent physical problems. “He is not recovering and we have decided not to compete in this Vuelta”, regrets the director Rafa Díaz Justo. Pastor is his replacement.
The Galician round is not without challenges for Polartec-Kometa. In the first place, as always, the search for protagonism in its development and the fight for partial successes and the final overall. But also, in second, all an additional incentive, the possibility that José Antonio García can reach the first position of the national ranking sub23 of the Spanish Federation of Cycling. On September 11, Joselillo (938 points) was nine points away from Jesus Arozamena. Curiously Juan Pedro Lopez, who at the end of May made the jump to the professional team, still resists in third place.
The initial time trial for teams, without being very extensive for the modality, will mark the development of a race that does not present some orographic difficulties of great complexity, although there is no lack of ambushes typical of the Galician terrain and its multitude of steep slopes. In the stage of Sanxenxo, the chained one of the Alto de O Busto and the Alto Escusa, of first category and twenty kilometres from the finish line will have a lot of fight for the general one. In the stage of Boiro it will be necessary to ascend Confurco, in two occasions, the second one to less than 18 km for the end, and Moimenta.
Díaz Justo, sports director of Polartec-Kometa: “It’s not an excessively hard lap. There is a time trial on the first day that will mark a little the final general and there is no final in high. We have in front of us two days of possible massive arrivals, two options for José with his last race; and, as always, we are going to have options to make a very nice race, with several riders in good shape and thinking about finishing the year with a good taste in their mouths”.
