Great balance and satisfaction for EOLO KOMETA at Belgium Tour

Belgium Tour (2.PRO)
Stage 5: Brussels - Brussels (194.8 km)

A high level race, a luxury participation with the sprinters who are preparing the Tour de France and a clear ambition of EOLO KOMETA to face and add great results in the Belgium Tour.

Two top-10 finishes, with fifth place for David Martin in the sprint of the first stage and seventh place for Vincenzo Albanese on the queen day with more than 20 climbs and the victory of Mathieu Van Der Poel. These were the most visible achievements of a team that also played a leading role in the breakaways with David Martín, Javi Serrano and Andrea Pietrobon. In the case of the Italian, he took advantage of the final day to bring out his riding skills and even select the breakaway in the final kilometres.

But for EOLO KOMETA, Mirco Maestri’s 16th place in the time trial of the third stage also had a special relevance. A discipline of strength, in which the team does not usually excel, and where Maestri signed a great performance.

The fight for the overall with Erik Fetter did not come to a nice result after the hard queen day. Nor did David Martín manage to be in the fight for the sprint in the second stage due to a fall. But everything is in the background as the Belgium Tour has been a great success. And now, to think about the National Championships.

Stefano Zanatta: “We closed this Belgium Tour in a good way with Pietrobon in the breakaway, the sprint teams controlling the race and they caught them with 20 kilometres to go. We tried to organise ourselves to place Alba for the final meters, although it was difficult against the WorldTour riders. He was looking for a good position and was in the fight until the end. I think we did a great race, we missed some more outstanding results but the young riders showed ambition and were protagonists”.
