Good start in Gipuzkoa, small loss in Besaya
Intense Friday of competition as far as the Foundation’s youth structure is concerned, with the celebration of the second stage of the Vuelta Ciclista al Besaya and with the start of a Gipuzkoako Itzulia in which the structure is making its debut after its ten years of existence.
Vuelta al Besaya
Change of leader in Cantabria. Markel Beloki (MMR) moved up to the lead after the previous leader, Belgian Jasper Schoofs (Acrog), lost a few seconds in the twisty final part of the second stage of the Vuelta al Besaya. Miguel Domínguez was also cut off next to the leader, losing 9″ which now places him in tenth position in the provisional general classification. Ludovico Mellano (Piemonte) would win in the volley of the small leading group.
A vibrant stage in which a breakaway of five riders, later of eight, in which Gerard Cano was present, gave way to a nice battle with the peloton due to the presence of Pablo Torres (Sanse), virtual leader for many kilometres, and Álvaro García (Valverde Team). Torres and García would persevere on the hard climb of the day, Castillo Pedroso, and would not be caught until the last twelve kilometres. For this Saturday, a double sector will be very important for the future of the race.
Gipuzkoako Itzulia
The rider from Castellón, Héctor Álvarez (Lucta) took the first leader’s jersey of the Gipuzkoako Itzulia after winning the opening time trial of the race this Friday, held in the town of Idiazabal on a short circuit that included some steep slopes.
At 10″ behind Álvarez, who stopped the clock in 2’53”, finished the Valladolid rider Iván Polo, seventh in this first part of the race. Iker Díaz finished 25th, 13″ behind; Iván Loaisa 29th, 14″ behind; Balint Feldhoffer 39th, 16″ behind. 20″ behind Hugo Pradas (65th) and 32″ behind Héctor García (146th). This Saturday, the morning stage will start and finish in Mendaro.
