Gerard Bofill and Pablo Gutiérrez ride in the Belgian Aubel-Thimister-Stavelot with the Birota Cycling
53rd Aubel-Thimister-Stavelot
From 9 to 11 August
A new edition of the Aubel-Thimister-Stavelot will be held between 9 and 11 August, 53 years ago. This Belgian event is one of the most prestigious events in the European summer calendar. Last year the Belgian Remco Evenepoel won with great solvency. Hand in hand with the collaboration agreement between the Alberto Contador Foundation and several Belgian clubs, through the Flanders Youth Cycling Academy, two runners of the youth team will take part in this race.
The Catalan Gerard Bofill and the Cantabrian Pablo Gutiérrez will compete with the Birota Cycling U19 Development Team, a team that has been represented in the recent Vuelta a Valladolid by the hand of Nils Verheyen and Yaaron Logghe. In front they will have a complicated route, prodigious in small heights and urban circuits, which in the first sector of the second day will have a team time trial of nine kilometers.
“I’m really looking forward to the race. I think it’s a very good opportunity to get to know another form of cycling and another way of running. In the Tour de l’Ain we lived about four days of pure cycling and in this race in Belgium I want to learn everything I can and make a good result in general,” explains Bofill.
The last three seasons have been very intense collaboration between sports entities. Last season, due to calendar issues, it was not possible to send any runner from the Spanish team to Belgium. Alex Vandenbulcke, Guilles Vercruysse, Davide Bomboi, Natham Decuypere and Harrison Wood were some of the riders who attended, among other events, the Challenge Montaña Central, the Itzulia or the Vuelta a Valladolid.
