Garosio gets into the breakaway and Double shows good performance on Serra de Tramuntana Trophy

Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana (1.1)
Selva-Lluc (153'8km)

A mountainous day of the Challenge de Mallorca and a leading role for Team Polti Kometa during the race. It was hard to form the breakaway, but Andrea Garosio managed to get into a leading cut in the central part of this third trophy. When the race was selected, in search of victory, Paul Double held on with the best riders until the last ramps of Puig Major climb.

The push of the riders who were playing for victory left Double on the verge of the top-15 of the Serra de Tramuntana Trophy, which lived up to expectations with plenty of spectacle and mountains. A day in which the Team Polti Kometa jersey was always present, looking for opportunities at every moment of the race. Garosio also fought for the intermediate points, although the favourites gave no option to his breakaway, a hard-fought one that helped him to enter the competition.

Andrea Garosio: “It wasn’t easy to get into the breakaway today. There was a lot of interest in getting into the front group. It was a very fast start, a very fast pace on the climb… there was no time to breath. After more than 50 kilometres, we were able to get away in a group that we understood each other well. But behind, they didn’t give us a chance and they were too far behind us. The goal was to be in the breakaway and I made it, so I’m satisfied”.

Paul Double: “I felt very good today, but I had a puncture before the first climb and I spent a lot of energy to get back into the group. In the final part we knew I had a good chance and I pushed hard to be with the front, but in Puig Major the group broke up and I had to suffer to lose as little time as possible. From the rear group, we fought to stay in the top-20 of the day, which with everything we experienced, is something to be happy about”.

Jesús Hernández, sports director: “It wasn’t easy to be in the breakaway of the day. Garosio made it at kilometre 60, showing concentration and commitment. Then in the final part, Paul [Double] showed a better condition than on the first day and was on the verge of holding on with those in front in the fight for the top-10. We are working seriously, improving every day”.
