Francesc Bennassar, Javier Serrano, Pablo Gutiérrez and Pedro Beneit, great protagonists of a weekend of autonomic and commitments
In a weekend with many fronts opened by the vicinity of several regional championships of the category and some prestigious events in the national calendar, good results for the riders of the Kometa Cycling Team youth. The good news began with Gerard Bofill’s gold medal in the online race of the Catalan Championship, a gold medal to which was added the title against the clock won in the Balearic Islands by Francesc Bennassar.
The Mallorcan cyclist became the new regional champion of the discipline when he won a 19 kilometre time trial that was held with start and finish in the town of Santa Margalida. “It was a time trial with many steep slopes, more prone to downhills at the beginning and against the wind, being the other way round; from the beginning I felt very well and in the end I was able to mark the sixth absolute position,” he explains.
In the road race, this Sunday, Bennassar signed the fourth place after being closed at the time of launching the sprint. “The aim was to keep an eye on the attacks and to make sure that no young cyclist escaped. The test consisted of three laps to a 23-kilometre circuit and three laps to a nine kilometre circuit. The short circuit had several steep slopes, but I felt good. In the end the sprint was resolved, but I couldn’t race it the way I wanted”.
A new edition of the Gran Premio Monje took place this Sunday in Madrid. The meeting in Fuenlabrada, which celebrated its 35th edition, was held on the usual 100-kilometre route, a route through the meadows of the South of Madrid in which Ángel Casillas (Sanse) won and where ‘kometa’ Javier Serrano finished second. In Fuenlabrada the team was also represented by Raúl García, Fernando Tercero and Alejandro Luna who had one of his best races of the season.
Two other medals for the team’s riders came from the Autonomous Communities of Cantabria and Valencia. In the framework of the XII Gran Premio Villa de Comillas, on an 85.2 kilometre course hardened by five steps through the Alto del Castillo, Pablo Gutiérrez finished second. Pedro Beneit, from Alicante, got the Valencian bronze after finishing third in the XXXV Hogueras de San Juan de Javea Trophy, disputed over 87 kilometres.
