Fran Muñoz, fourth fastest time at the start of the Vuelta a Madrid time trial in Fuenlabrada

34º Vuelta a Madrid sub23
Stage 1: Fuenlabrada – Fuenlabrada (4,4 km ITT)

Catalan rider Fran Muñoz (although born in Oviedo and moved with his family to Catalonia at a very young age) set the fourth fastest time in the opening time trial of the Vuelta a Madrid, held on Wednesday afternoon in the southern town of Fuenlabrada.

Muñoz, the penultimate of the 152 riders who make up the peloton of the Madrid round, stopped the time trial in 5’07”, three seconds worse than the winner, Abel Balderstone (Caja Rural).

The U23 structure of the Contador Foundation had three other riders in the top fifteen: Manuel Oioli, 11th with 5’09”; Javi Serrano, 12th and separated by hundredths of a second from Oioli and Raccagni, 13th with 5’11”. Oioli, the first rider in blue to take part, led the classification for many minutes. EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team starts the race as the best team.

“Today was a prologue to get into the rhythm of the race. The most important thing was not to lose time and, in that sense, the objective was achieved”, tells Muñoz.

This Thursday the second stage crosses the geographies of the Sierra Norte with a proposal as attractive as demanding. In little more than 100 kilometres, more than 2.200 metres of positive difference in altitude. And the Puerto de La Puebla, the Puerto de La Hiruela and the Collado Campadales on the route.
