Emen4Sport makes the leap to Italy with Team Polti Kometa

Emen4Sport, a company specialising in sports performance and nutrition, and Team Polti Kometa, the Italian cycling team of brothers Alberto and Fran Contador and Ivan Basso, have signed a collaboration agreement that represents a further step in Emen4Sport’s strategy in the world of sport.

Nutrition and physiological assessment are the two proposals that the Emen4Sport scientific method develops with the members of the professional team. Team Polti Kometa is a structure with more than 10 years of history, the last four in the second division of world cycling, and this relationship is part of a long-term work that includes the most prominent members of the structure that participates in the Giro d’Italia.

Nutrition is developed on an individual basis with each of the cyclists, through specific nutritional studies, and this has led to exceptional results. The joint work between Emen4Sport and the medical team and the trainers of Team Polti Kometa has achieved a boost that is offering very satisfactory results in all areas.

Lorena Aira, head of nutrition for the programme, emphasises “the importance of individualising nutrition and supplementation in races based on the characteristics of their profile and the individual objectives of each rider. It is key to be in direct contact with the cyclist and to carry out an exhaustive follow-up of each one of them”.

“To ensure good nutrition it is key to provide cyclists with high quality products. For this we rely on Kometa foods, products rich in protein of the highest quality,” explains Iker Bóveda, sports nutritionist. The Kometa brand has been a sponsor of the Contador Foundation since its leap to the continental category in 2018. An agri-food company specialising in the processing and transformation of pork and poultry meat, with end products of excellent quality thanks to the complete control of all processes.

Together with Javier Borrego, cardiologist in charge of the medical examinations and Ander Romarate, technical director and head of physiological assessments at Emen4Sport, a work plan has been developed that is already showing their benefits. “From Emen4sport we adapt to the context of each cyclist to be able to individualise to the maximum and thus improve their immune system, recovery and maximise performance,” adds Bóveda.

The physiological assessments and medical examinations have resulted in obtaining a thorough knowledge of the health of each member of the team. All the conclusions have always been shared with the technical managers and have made it possible to implement measures aimed at obtaining the best version of each athlete.

Nutrition has become a key aspect in cycling today, and Team Polti Kometa works with an awareness of its importance. The variables that condition each competition, such as the timetable and the length of the stages, the expected wear and tear, the rider’s objectives, as well as the temperature and the weather, are determining the choice of nutrition adapted to each cyclist and each moment.

Team Polti Kometa’s performance manager, Carlos Barredo, emphasises “the importance of nutrition and recovery strategies in cycling today”. In particular, the close collaboration with Emen4Sport is allowing a monitoring of each cyclist “that allows an individualised follow-up, depending on the needs and objectives. Step by step, we are gradually integrating all the areas into a working group that allows us to achieve the best results in competition”.

With this agreement Emen4Sport has gained access to the demanding world of professional cycling, which will have its maximum expression during the next Giro d’Italia where Team Polti Kometa competes the fourth time in a row.
