Edoardo Alleva, third in a mass sprint in Parla with no changes for the general classification

XXXV Vuelta a Madrid
Stage 4: Parla – Parla (137,5 km)

A nice headline for this Friday’s stage would have been ‘Parla italiano’, but in the end, due to the resolution of the stage, it could have been ‘Parla… de Mallorca’. In Parla, start and finish of this penultimate day of the Vuelta a Madrid, a mass sprint with victory for Francesc Bennassar (High Level), former rider of the junior team of the Foundation; a volley in which the ‘eolokometa’ Edoardo Alleva finished third and that brought no changes to the general classification at the top.

The U23 team of the Foundation had special motivation for this day, since it took place on roads very common to many trainings and passed next to the town of Pinto where it has its headquarters. That’s why in the early stages the team kept a close eye on the breakaways, worked on caution when some of them consolidated (with few members) and worked with care and dedication in the final stages to avoid breaks and keep the race under control. There was even a breakaway with the signature of Raúl López in that final part when the group was riding at over 60 km/h.

“I’m a bit angry with the circumstances, but I’m happy with the result in spite of everything. I had a puncture about five kilometres from the finish and all the strength I used to get back to the peloton as soon as possible in the end I missed it”, said Alleva after the stage, on the way to the hotel.

The Vuelta a Madrid faces its last stage this Saturday, with a ride through the western mountains of Madrid and a finish in San Lorenzo de El Escorial after a steep wall. Enough terrain for the resolution of a race that has to be resolved, with Jaume Guardeño starting as leader and Fran Muñoz in second place, 15 seconds behind, and Andrea Montoli, in sixth place, 45″ behind.
