Double Italian commitment for EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team U23

4 April: Trofeo Piva
5 April: Belvedere Tour

With the Italian team, Alessio Acco, Andrea Montoli and Davide Piganzoli at the front, the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team U23 led by Rafa Díaz Justo will face a small competitive tour in the Italian calendar. On April 4 and 5 the U23 structure of the Contador Foundation will race in two one-day races in Veneto. Two demanding and historic races.

The Trofeo Piva will be the first commitment. A race with 71 editions behind it that in this 2021 presents a route of 178 kilometres with start and finish in Col San Martino, the town around which this race, created in 1955, takes place. Three circuits will make up the bulk of the road book, with the climb to Combai and, in the last three laps, Riva di San Vigilio, a 600 metre wall with 22% gradients, as the decisive points.

The following day the Giro del Belvedere awaits the riders. The Cordignano is one of the iconic events on the Italian calendar, created in 1923 and with 81 editions held so far. Its 166.8 kilometres are broken down into fourteen laps of a 9.4-kilometre first circuit and two finishes on a 17.6-kilometre route that includes two passes over the Montaner wall. This 1.7-kilometre climb has an average gradient of 12%.

“I’m in good shape, in good spirits and I’m really looking forward to doing well in these races. I feel good and the training sessions have gone very well. Being the first race, and being an international race, it’s going to be a very tough competition. But I want to honour my new colours as best I can”, proclaimed Davide Piganzoli, one of the new faces this season.

Alessio Acco, who is in his third year with the team, is also looking forward to both races. “I’m looking forward to these days with a mixture of happiness, desire and tranquility for the good work done during the previous months. I arrive after a good winter, training almost all the time regardless of the weather and without any distractions. I spent three weeks on the Isola d’Elba to have better temperatures in a period when it was quite cold at home and I was able to work very well. The last few weeks of quality work are showing their results, in terms of data and sensations… These races are tough, and they will be even tougher because of the level of the peloton”.
