Daniel Tenorio promoted to the U23 category by the Fundación Contador

Daniel Tenorio Albo from Madrid will compete in 2024 in the ranks of the Fundación Alberto Contador Foundation U23 structure . The rider from Ciempozuelos (22 February 2005) will be the sixth rider to face the change of category under Rafa Díaz Justo next season after the announcements of the Frenchman Dario Giuliano, the Hungarian Balint Feldhoffer and the Spaniards Sergio Calvo, Gerard Cano and Manuel Sanroma. Winner of the overall and of two stages of the last edition of the Volta a Portugal U19, Tenorio has had very good performances in a season in which he has competed with GSport+Vatios and during which he has been able to face some commitment in the U23 category with Team El Bicho, with which he participated in the last Vuelta Ciclista a Madrid.

A student of a degree in Industrial Technologies Engineering at the Universidad Carlos III of Madrid, Tenorio is a relatively recent cyclist with a background in triathlon. In the combined sport, the same one where his sisters Julia and María stand out thanks to the Ciempozuelos Triathlon Club, his first outstanding performances came. “I started triathlon in 2020, the year of the pandemic. Jorge Recuero told me that I was doing very well on the bike and encouraged me to try this discipline more exclusively. When I finished the confinement I ended up signing up for Cycling Training. It was the first time that I had touched a road bike, so to speak. It didn’t go badly. The following season, in July, I ended up winning the Vuelta al Besaya cadet and I started a path that I have followed until today”, he points out.

“We have been following Daniel for a couple of seasons with our assistant Jorge Recuero,” says director Rafa Díaz Justo. “A great lover and practitioner of this sport, Recuero told us about the boy’s enormous physical faculties. What I like the most is that he has a very complete and versatile profile, capable of doing well in different disciplines, but at the same time he has a lot of room for progression and improvement. Dani is a boy with a lot of potential, so much so that logically he has had different proposals on the table. He has always believed in our project and it is very motivating to have the opportunity to work side by side with him”.

“I think that the Contador Foundation is one of the great teams that exist at national level and to be able to be in a big team, at least among the four biggest on the current scene, is a source of pride. Also, in a way, it is my home team in the sense that the headquarters are close to Ciempozuelos. I’m aware that I’m facing a big jump, which will make 2024 a complicated year, but I’m really looking forward to it and I’m very motivated. I hope I can do well, that this desire can be reflected on the asphalt. Rafa Díaz Justo has given me a lot of confidence from the very first day”, explains the new Foundation cyclist. With the Spanish national team of the category, he competed in the Italian Due Giorni Eroica and the French Trophée Centre Morbihan, events of the Nations Cup promoted by the International Cycling Union.

Tenorio joins a growing list of riders from the Community of Madrid who have passed through the ranks of the U23 structure of the Contador Foundation, such as current professionals Javi Serrano, Diego Pablo Sevilla and Carlos García or Alejandro Luna, Hugo Sampedro and David Casillas. “I think I’m a strong rider who can defend himself well on all terrains, but it’s true that these days I’ve stood out more on the climbs. I think I have room for improvement in the time trials, a discipline in which I have achieved some victories this year. But I have to work hard. And work hard. You have to go step by step, calmly. And without leaving my studies. At home we’ve always been clear that there was no leisure if there were no results in the studies and that discipline will continue. Besides, now it seems that if you don’t go up from the junior category to the professional category, you’re never going to make it. In my opinion, it’s important to acquire a good base, in the long run that will last longer”.
