Bais still there in front. Pietrobon, what bad luck….

Giro del Veneto (1.1)
Padova-Vicenza (159.8 km)

Of course we’re a bit tired of talking about bad luck, crashes, scares and riders being taken to the hospital. After Fortunato at the Tour of Lombardy, today it was Pietrobon’s turn who while in a breakaway and giving everything ended up on the asphalt: a lot of fear, transport to the hospital that excluded serious consequences, and once again a lot of bad luck. Andrea, we’ll be waiting for you soon.

Then, the race went on for us from EOLO-KOMETA as well, and again it was a race on the attack. Davide Bais, protagonist of a sensational season finale, was splendid in staying with the strongest until a few kilometers from the finish line and holding on to take an excellent eighth place. In the chasing group, Mirco Maestri moved to the front to contest the sprint and finish 18th.

At the end of the season now remains only the Veneto Classic, next Sunday: last chance to dream of a victory, and to grow a little more.

Biagio Conte: “Today we got a very good result, even if there always remains that pinch of fear that holds us back at the most beautiful. Bais was great, but when he attacked De Marchi he could have stayed with him: he still lacks some courage to throw on the bike, although then eighth place overall is a good finish. The team rode well and was careful in the key moments: Pietrobon was very good in catching the breakaway as we asked him to, unfortunately he ran into a crash that could have had much more serious consequences. I have to congratulate all the guys, even Mirko who sprinted the group: we have a lot of confidence for Sunday’s race, we know we can bring home a good result.”

Davide Bais: “Already in the middle of the race on the hardest part there were only a few of us left, then on the last climb the first five opened the throttle and I couldn’t stay with them for a while. Then I made the sprint of the small group, and I managed to finish eighth. I am quite happy, too bad about Pietrobon’s fall: now, the head is to Sunday’s race.”
