Andrea Montoli skirmishes on home roads and eighth place in the ‘volata’ for Manuel Oioli

The preview was fulfilled in the streets of Nerviano, despite a persistent movement of the ‘zalf’ Matteo Zurlo, and the Coppa Caduti Nervianesi held on Monday was resolved in a crewed sprint where the fastest was the Italian Cristian Rocchetta and in which our rider Manuel Oioli signed the eighth final position. An edition of the Coppa Caduti in which Andrea Montoli was among the protagonists with his participation in several offensive movements. Gabriele Raccagni came close to the top ten, eleventh at the finish.

Montoli, who was practically competing at home because his residence in Parabiago is very close to the route, took part in the most consistent movements of a day with many alternatives with hardly any margin in its development. A first breakaway of fifteen riders was a little more than a minute behind halfway through the race. In a second one, with 18 riders in the last 30, the gap was much smaller.

Andrea Montoli: “Today was a very special race, because it was practically my home race. Very close to my home town, with lots of friends and family cheering me on along the route… And on top of that I was wearing race bib number one. The first was an interesting breakaway, with many riders and several teams represented, but there was no understanding even though we got to a minute. The second one was closer to the end but the peloton was very close. I think we rode a good race, always looking for the breakaway and trying to ride at the front at all times”.

Manuel Oioli, on his second top-10 finish of the year: “We had decided that Raccagni and I would be the ones to face the sprint, with a view to see how we would get to the final part to see how to manage the volley. In the end, in the last kilometre, the finish got a bit out of place and I got involved in the finish. I’m happy with my eighth place today”.
