A varied menu and a versatile team for the ‘home race’ premiere that couldn’t be in 2021

34º Vuelta Ciclista a Madrid sub23
From 20 to 24 July

The Vuelta a Madrid promoted by the Federación Madrileña de Ciclismo ‘re-debuted’ as a stage race in the U23 category in 2021, but in that premiere the sports structure of the Fundación Contador could not be present in this category due to two positives for COVID-19 in the internal controls that invited at the last minute, all caution is too little, to renounce.

It was not possible for the team to run the home race, but in that special edition there was a rider from the current team who will now take part, and with an outstanding role: Marcel Camprubí, tenth in the final general classification, won the last and demanding stage, the ride through the Sierra de Madrid.

Camprubí will take part again in the Madrid round, being part of a ‘seven’ that includes Arnau Gilabert (who had planned to race in Valle d’Aosta, but was finally left out due to illness), Fran Muñoz, Manuel Oioli, Gabriele Raccagni, Javi Serrano and Pablo Uría. For Serrano, being his home race, it will be a very special participation.. And also for Uría, from Asturias, who returns to competition after overcoming a knee injury.

Ahead, against 21 other teams (22 in total), five stages featuring a short initial time trial, a mountain stage in the deceptively demanding Sierra Norte on the second day (with the impressive Puerto de La Puebla, the majestic Puerto de La Hiruela or the short but very tough Collado Campadales on the menu), a nervous day in Paracuellos de Jarama and another more manageable one in Parla before a final queen stage in the Sierra de Guadarrama with a uphill finish in San Lorenzo del Escorial.

Stages.

Stage 1 (20 July): Fuenlabrada – Fuenlabrada (4,46 km).

Stage 2 (21 July): Buitrago del Lozoya – Buitrago del Lozoya (102,6 km).

Stage 3 (22 July): Paracuellos de Jarama – Paracuellos de Jarama (136 km).

Stage 4 ( 23 July): Parla – Parla (138,6 km).
