A long day before the final stages of the CRO Race

Stage 4: Biograd na Moru – Crikvenica (219km)

The second longest stage of this CRO Race was a transition day and a recovery day for the EOLO Kometa riders. The almost 220 kilometres were dominated by a breakaway and the main peloton’s approval until the final part, looking for the reduced sprint, with the blues well placed but unlucky in the final metres.

The efforts and great results of the previous days allowed the riders to take a breath today, despite trying the breakaway in the first kilometres. Thus, the riders preferred to save their strength and think about the remaining stages. An almost completely flat course, but with a climb in the final part that left less than 50 riders in the group with the triple representation of Maestri, Albanese and Martin. The Spaniard even had the opportunity to attack, looking to surprise on the climb but without success for his brave move. Albanese remains in the places of honour in the general classification.

Steffano Zanata: “Our intention was to be in the breakaway of the day but we didn’t make it, so we rode calmly in the bunch because we knew that the finish was very difficult and that the chances of a sprint were very high. On the final circuit, and with the rain making an appearance, we decided not to take risks and think about the last two stages to try to keep the top-5 overall with Alba. The positive thing is that the race is going very well, Alex is very strong and the team in general is at a very high level”.
