A difficult day in the Vuelta a Burgos

Speed and hardness in the initial part. The search for the breakaway was on for more than an hour and finally, when five riders went to the front, Ravasi jumped from the peloton in search of the escapees. Despite being less than a minute behind for many kilometres, they did not catch with the group and were caught on the first ramps of Picón Blanco.

Luck was not on the side of EOLO KOMETA, who were looking for a good result with Lorenzo Fortunato. The Italian rider suffered an incident on the hardest climb of the day that left him hopelessly out of the group of favourites and out of the fight for the overall. Alex Martín was the best at the finish line in Villarcayo.

Stefano Zanatta: “Let’s start by looking around and seeing which riders we are up against: there are so many World Tour teams, and emerging for a team like ours is not easy. Having said that, today I had asked to try to get into the day’s breakaway, and Ravasi tried, although then he couldn’t get back on the first group of attackers because they were going really hard in front. On the climb we wanted to try to stay in front with Fortunato, who is returning here in Burgos after a long stop, but unfortunately Lorenzo was involved in a crash right at the beginning of the climb. Nothing serious, but he had to change his bike and lost contact with the first group: without that fall, in my opinion he would have stayed with them. Tomorrow we will try to make the race on Fedeli given the finish on paper suitable for him.”
