A day of hard work and seventh place at the finish for Haimar Etxeberria
The breakaway triumphed in the opening of the Volta a Valencia with a Russian double and seventh place for Haimar Etxeberria in the twisty streets of Olocau. The Russian Ilia Schegolkov (Controlpack) and his teammate Vlas Shichkin took off with about fifteen kilometres to go and managed to sustain their movement against the momentum of a peloton where the U23 structure of the Contador Foundation was hard at work hunting down the riders.
The day, which followed the tradition of starting from the Bioparc facilities in the capital of the Turia, was marked by a large breakaway, eleven riders, who managed to manage the climbs to Pico del Águila and, in its last throes, the passage through Montmayor. A phase of the race where the Caja Rural and EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team, embodied in the work of Álex García and Gabriele Raccagni, carried the weight of the work for many kilometres. This Saturday, start and finish in Moncada with double pass through the Oronet.
