The Mallorca Challenge offers five opportunities to Team Polti Kometa
The five traditional races of the Mallorca Challenge will take place this week on the Mediterranean island, with opportunities for sprinters and climbers in a very varied route that fills Team Polti Kometa cyclists with enthusiasm.
After the debut and the premiere of the new equipment in the two races Clàssica CV and Gran Premio Castellón, the ProTeam of the Alberto Contador Foundation is now ready to face the five Trophies of the Mallorca Challenge. From Wednesday to Sunday, they will cycle all corners of the island of Mallorca with the aim of showing their colours both during the races and at the finish line.
The Trofeo Calviá will once again be in charge of inaugurating the Mallorca Challenge, with the usual leg-breaking route that usually breaks the race far from the finish line and that has already seen the team climb the podium in past editions. 150 very hard kilometres to open the mouth, which will be followed by the Trofeo Ses Salines-Felanitx, favourable for powerful cyclists, on the day with the longest distance (more than 180 kilometres for the cyclists).
The Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana includes the ascent of Puig Major in the last 30 kilometres, which will be a stage with a finish in Lluc for the climbers. The fourth day between Pollença and Port d’Andratx will once again allow the bravest riders to try the breakaway, while the sprinters will have their big day in the final circuit around Palma de Mallorca with 150 kilometres of route.
Each of the Trophies of the Mallorca Challenge allows for the line-up of 7 different cyclists. For this reason, Team Polti Kometa has sent 10 riders who will compete in the races most suited to their conditions and objectives. Mattia Bais, Davide De Cassan, Paul Double, Alex Martín, Andrea Pietrobon, Diego Sevilla, Andrea Garosio, David Martín, Fran Muñoz and Javier Serrano have been lined up.
Director Jesús Hernández assesses the state of the team before the start of the Challenge de Mallorca: “There are five very different trophies. Two for sprinters (the second and the fifth) in which we trust in David Martín and his speed as a pure sprinter; and other three harder ones in which we will try on the one hand to have visibility in the breakaways and on the other hand to fight for a good result at the finish line. Cyclists like Álex, Mattia or Garosio will be our trump cards. We will aim to maintain the organisation, the teamwork and we hope to finish the race with good positions”.
