“If the day before a race like this you are not excited, it means you have the wrong job.” So said our Ivan Basso, three years ago, on the team bus on the eve of the first Tirreno-Adriatico run by EOLO KOMETA. In front of him were the wide-eyed riders who had never participated in a monumental race like that but were so eager to try and show off.

Three years have passed. EOLO KOMETA has grown and many new fellow travelers have joined our group. So many things have changed but, fortunately, some things have remained the same: and one, is just the excitement when we get vigils like this.

We set off for the Tirreno-Adriatico, which this year is as tough and demanding as ever. Seven stages, one different from the other, in which we will try to show up and make our mark as we always have. It starts on Monday with the classic time trial, all on the flat along the sea in Lido di Camaiore, while the next day it will be the sprinters to do battle with the last 70 km all smooth and without climbs. But the going will begin to get tough the following day with the Follonica-Foligno that will see the climb up the Passo del Lume Spento before a very nervous finale. On March 9, the Greccio-Tortoreto is the longest stage at 219 km: the first 70 km are all uphill before the descent on the final circuit of Tortoreto. On March 10, stage with uphill finish with the Sassotetto climb where those who want to win the race will have to be up front while the sixth stage will be characterized by continuous ups and downs that will put everyone in trouble before the double climb to Osimo. Final Sunday, March 12, with the flat finish in San Benedetto.

Mirco Maestri is in love with the Tirreno-Adriatico, and it is in this race that he has collected his best results with the conquest of the points classification in 2019: “Yes, I am very attached to this race and it is one of the ones I love the most: in the past years it has also given me some great satisfactions and obviously I feel very ready to honor it. I’d like to collect something good, on a personal level but also for the team: we’ll see.”
